Giving back. Paying it forward. Getting involved in our community and country. It goes by many names, this urge to help and/or partner with a worthy cause. Since the events from April 15th at the Boston Marathon, we felt this urge. Unfortunately, these cowardly acts of terrorism against our fellow brothers and sisters, are part of our life & times. We need to unite and answer the call when the time is right. That time is now!
So what could Board Patrol do to help? Plenty, actually. As far as donating money, a worthy recipient is to give to one of the 35 charitable organizations that Boston Marathon runners had chosen as their own recipients, which ranged from the American Red Cross of Massachusetts to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society; think of it as donating in a runner’s honor.
Board Patrol has chosen Dream Big!: Founded in 2010, Dream Big!’s mission is to help break down the economic barrier that prevents low income and homeless girls from participating in sports and physical activities. A Massachusetts-based charitable organization, Dream Big! works to ensure that all girls, regardless of socio-economic background, have the equipment, uniforms, sneakers, program fees, training opportunities and supplies they need to participate in sports and physical activities that contribute to their overall health, fitness, education and well-being. In just three years, Dream Big! has already had a direct, positive impact on more than 3,500 girls from low-income situations through equipment grants, program scholarships, sports clinics and the Dream Big! Leadership Conferences for female athletes. (www.dream-big.org)
A couple days after the Boston Marathon I spoke to Linda Driscoll, Founder & CEO of Dream Big!, who said, ‘The overall support from the country for Boston, has been amazing as we all keep the victims of this horrific event in our thoughts and prayers!. We all remain “Boston Strong” and thank everyone for their kindness and support throughout this difficult time.”
During the month of May, for every location Board Patrol completes, we will donate to this cause to help buy a pair of running shoes, a basketball or a soccer ball to help a child in need.
Please join us in helping any way you can, to the countless great organizations and charities, by donating time or money to these great causes!
Thank you and G-d bless America!
“Dude, I just tripped on a……..” STOP!!!!…. Has this happened to you? A loose piece of board causing you stress? A darn mat bunching up and not cooperating? Well I am here to tell you, where, when and how to determine the best ways to protect your locations best interest. First off, you need to become ONE with the ‘floor’. When you have reached that zenith moment, then and only then, we can now officially begin 😉
Depending on the size of your location and what is going to occur while your crew is filming there, is what type of material you are going to want to protect your floors with.
Scenario 1: You are going to shoot a basketball scene in a basketball gym….I am going to go out on a limb and say, BOARDS PLEASE! You will be wheeling around a bunch of equipment and everyone knows that wheeling stuff on boards is the easiest way to go.
Scenario 2: You are going to shoot a kick ass boat scene on a 110 foot yacht in Long Beach. Hmmm, let me think….MATS PLEASE. Let’s talk it out….. Small crew, small narrow area to shoot in, and no wheeling of any equipment : it’s a no brainer! Your life will be made a lot simpler on the ‘Love Boat’ with using the mat alternative.
There are pros and cons to either way you choose. Layout boards and mats are your friends. Layout boards have been used in the film industry since the 1950’s, can be cut to fit in any sized area, easily transported to locations and recyclable. Mats are the ‘new kids on the block’ which look cool, and can get wet no problem.
